Would like to use DVO on stack cmf files

I would like to use addstar and DVO on cmf files for stacks and diffs derived from those stacks. But it looks like addstar wants a chip number when loading:

Is this a fundamental issue with registering images, or a simple mod to allow for a format as followed by the stacks.
