White domes, while reflecting heat during the day, cool to below ambient during the night. This temperature differential creates turbulence above the dome slit. The potential for skin seeing at PS1 is being investigated with a temperature monitoring system and series of seeing measurements using two RoboDIMMs.

    443 To investigate whether a skin seeing issue exists at PS1 a monitoring system has been installed to measure dome skin and adjacent ambient temperatures. The system consists of three Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) and a RTD input module. The photos show the placement of the sensors. The first dangles in the end a piece of 3/4" PVC. The sensor is shaded but the bottom of the tube is cut out to allow air flow. The sensor is approximately 2' away from the dome. The second sensor is taped to the dome with aluminum tape. The third is held against the dome surface by a 1" x 1" x 1/2" piece of closed-cell foam epoxied to the surface. Sensors two and three have a coating of thermal conductive paste. The sensors are wired to an ADAM-6015 RTD input module through the unused vent 3. The input module is polled every minute by a script on Otis 7. The data is recorded in /export/home/otis/skintemp/data with file names yyyymmdd.skintemp.dat

    452 The remaining original RoboDIMM control computer ran Windows 98 on an old machine. The requirements of running the RoboDIMM program often left the time significantly off despite the attached GPS receiver. To get measurements from two RoboDIMMs relatively close in time two relatively modern laptops running Windows XP were built with all of the required software.

    454 On May 28, 2010, two RoboDIMMs separated by a distance of about 10 feet collected simultaneous data on Polaris from the PS2 dome that indicate the two DIMMs are quite well correlated.
